Sending email the authenticated way!

Ever wanted to connect to a properly authenticated mail server to send emails rather than use PHP’s in-built phpmail functionality? Maybe you want messages to be stored in your sent-items folder? Or maybe you need to for security purposes. Look no further than the instructions below:

Another one of the many fanastic WordPress plugins about, written by Callum McDonald. Download it from here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

Unzip the zip file and put the folder into /wp-content/plugins/. Browse to Settings > Plugins and enable the plugin:

Finally…
Enable the settings as below in the screenshot. It’s pretty straight forward. In my case, I use Google Apps and Google Apps mail for this domain so it needs to be SSL to connect to Google’s SMTP mail server:

And don’t forget to send a test email!
