Increase your upload file sizes in WordPress

Wordpress logo

Ever wanted to upload larger files into your WordPress site’s Media Library but been frustrated at not knowing how? It’s quite a simple change if you’re running an Apache server like we are.

Firstly, check the value that you currently see when trying to upload a new file via Media > Add New:

If the value shown above isn’t big enough, enter the following values at the bottom of your .htaccess file in the root of your website’s directory:

php_value upload_max_filesize 200M
php_value post_max_size 200M
php_value max_execution_time 2000
php_value max_input_time 2000

This will not only increase the filesize allowed to be uploaded, but also allow the file to be uploaded by increasing the execution time and maximum that can be posted through the browser.

Enjoy!
